APWA Winter Maintenance Supervisor Certificate:

The Winter Maintenance Supervisor Certificate is for supervisors and managers to:
  • Expand knowledge of planning and preparation
  • Increase understanding of winter weather and how it affects operations
  • Identify how to better use traditional and alternative chemicals
  • Consider what equipment is available and how to maintain it
  • Expand understanding of snow & ice control techniques
  • Appreciate the environmental impacts of winter maintenance policies
  • Stress responsible application
  • Resulting in more effective, efficient, equitable and environmentally friendly snow and ice control
This course is an all-day workshop, with five content sections covering Policies and Procedures, Weather, Materials, Equipment, and Snow and Ice Control. Testing is conducted throughout the day. Attendees receive a Certificate of Completion upon achieving a score or 80% or above. This is a fantastic training opportunity for new supervisors, foreman, crew leaders, senior operators or anyone wanting a good overall understanding of winter maintenance operations.

        APWA Winter Maintenance Operator Certificate: The Winter Maintenance Operator Certificate is for those “behind the wheel” during winter maintenance events. This half day workshop is designed to:
  • Provide a basic understanding of winter operations
  • Increase operator understanding of winter materials and how they work
  • Provide an overview of winter equipment and its upkeep
  • Encourage enhanced communication between fleet personnel and operators
  • Discuss winter operations for operators
Resulting in more effective, efficient, equitable and environmentally friendly snow and ice control.  There is a short content test for this program; participants will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the program as long as they have been present throughout the entire workshop and complete the test with an 80% or better. This is a fantastic training opportunity for new and experienced operators, supplemental operators from other departments, and contract operators, to ensure a strong overall understanding of winter maintenance operations.
