What is a ROADeo?

The CPWA Manitoba Heavy Equipment ROADeo is a hands-on professional skills competition designed to showcase the knowledge, precision, and professionalism of public works operators from across Manitoba and beyond.

Participants compete in a series of practical equipment challenges that test their ability to safely and efficiently operate equipment commonly used in public works operations, including loaders, snowplows, and other specialized equipment. Competitors are evaluated on safety, accuracy, efficiency, equipment control, and adherence to industry best practices.

More than just a competition, the ROADeo provides an opportunity to:

  •  Demonstrate and celebrate the exceptional skills of public works professionals
  • Promote safe equipment operation and a strong culture of workplace safety
  • Encourage ongoing training, professional development, and continuous improvement
  • Foster networking, mentorship, and camaraderie among operators, supervisors, and public works leaders
  • Share best practices and innovations from municipalities and organizations across the region
  • Increase public awareness and appreciation for the critical role public works professionals play in maintaining infrastructure and delivering essential services

Top competitors receive cash prizes, provincial award recognition, and the opportunity to earn bragging rights for themselves and their municipality. Winners are recognized by the CPWA Manitoba Chapter as some of the province's most skilled public works equipment operators.

In select equipment categories, champions may also be invited to represent Manitoba at the annual APWA Public Works Expo (PWX) Equipment ROADeo, where they compete against the best public works operators from across North America. This unique opportunity allows Manitoba operators to showcase their talents on an international stage while highlighting the excellence of their municipality and the public works profession.

The CPWA Manitoba Heavy Equipment ROADeo brings together municipalities, public agencies, industry partners, equipment manufacturers, and operators in a unique environment that combines friendly competition, education, professional recognition, and industry celebration.

Whether competing, volunteering, sponsoring, or attending, participants help showcase the pride, dedication, and expertise that keep Manitoba's communities safe, connected, and thriving.
